I am Ng Mui
Some 300 years ago I became a Shaolin Nun.
Although Buddhism was my main focus, I was intrigued with the physical training
of Martial Arts as a way of keeping the body healthy. I was disappointed though
that many training systems were not allowed for females as they were considered
too hard for us to handle.
I decided therefor to develop my own, and looked upon nature as my guide.
I happened upon a crane and snake one day locked in battle, and was fascinated to see such different creatures using the only natural weapons they possessed to fend off each other. The linear darting movements of the snake, the broad sweeping motions of the crane inspired me but more importantly the lesson of using ones own strengths allowed me to develop an extremely economical and dynamic system that did not rely on strength, as most men were stronger than me.
It took quite some time before I
felt capable of using this new system, but at last I was confident enough to
face the senior monks with my newfound skills.
It certainly surprised them as they expected a stronger exchange of contact,
and they were unsuspecting of my simultaneous defense and attacks.
After some time four of the more senior monks took me aside and we spoke at
length about how I came upon this new style of fighting. Seeing the benefits
and practical uses of this system, we all decided to share our knowledge and
enhance this yet unnamed style of martial arts.
